What Is Our Role?

Governors play an important part in the leadership of Honley High School and our role is a strategic one. Our key functions are:

  • Setting the strategic vision, aims and objectives of the school
  • Appointing the Headteacher and holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

We offer support, constructive advice and a second opinion, but we also challenge, ask questions, and seek information so that we can effectively monitor school performance and development.

In addition to these statutory duties, Governors do a wide variety of other things, either through formal governor committees, visits into school, and personal involvement with the day-to-day life of the school.
