OUR LIBRARY

Refurbished in 2013, the Library at Honley High School is an inclusive and welcoming space in the heart of the school. Here students will find a wide selection of fiction and non-fiction titles to suit all abilities and tastes, but if they can't find what they’re looking for, or don't know what to read, Mrs Ackroyd, our Librarian, or one of our Student Librarians will be happy to help.

Throughout the year, Mrs Ackroyd organises a range of events, competitions and displays to promote and celebrate the joy of reading and books. Previous events have included a Harry Potter Book Night celebration where students were sorted into Houses before taking part in some wonderful wizarding challenges; World Book Day celebrations including a design a bookmark competition, a ‘my favourite book’ photo booth, make your own origami bookmarks, and storytelling; Blind Date With a Book for Valentine's Day; World Poetry Day - poetry writing competition; Winter Wonderland short story writing competitions, and there's much more to come!

The Library is open every day for quiet reading/homework during break and lunch. Additionally, it is open after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays until 4.00pm.

THE READING CORNER, LIBRARY NEWSLETTER

Each year, we recruit a team of Student Librarians to help in the Library during break and lunchtimes. Student Librarians have a range of responsibilities including issuing and returning books, running the stationery shop, writing articles for the library newsletter, helping at library events and also recommending books for the Library to stock.

This year we launched ‘The Reading Corner’ Library Newsletter to share our love for reading for pleasure, edited by Mrs Ackroyd it is created from interviews, articles, and book reviews submitted by the Student Librarians.

READING FOR PLEASURE

At Honley, we believe in encouraging and nurturing a love of reading.  There are numerous benefits; mental stimulation, stress reduction, memory improvement, increased focus and concentration, stronger analytical skills, vocabulary expansion, increase in range of knowledge, insight into the lives of others, better writing skills, tranquillity and most importantly entertainment.

There are plenty of books to choose from our school library or from our e-library https://honleyhigh.eplatform.co/ and the eplatform app. We are sure our students will find something to pique their interest.

There are also a wide range of FREE eBooks and eAudiobooks online from the local libraries here: https://www.borrowbox.com/

Additionally, students can discover FREE eAudiobooks online here: https://stories.audible.com/start-listen.
