ADMISSIONS

Your journey starts here

We’re delighted that you are considering joining Honley High School.

Starting secondary school is a significant milestone, and it’s natural for both students and their families to feel a little anxious.

At Honley, we do everything we can to ensure our new students feel prepared, confident, and excited as they begin their journey with us.

How to apply

The majority of families will complete their application to high school in the September that their child starts Year 6.

Applications for a school place in September 2026 open online between 1 September 2025 and 31 October 2025. Applying after this date can greatly reduce your chances of obtaining a place at your preferred school.

Please read the guide below to find out how to apply.

STARTING SECONDARY SCHOOL - A GUIDE FOR PARENTS/CARERS

What if I do not get offered a place?

If you are unsuccessful in getting a place at Honley, you can ask Kirklees Council for your child to be added to the re-allocation list, and if still unsuccessful, you may appeal the decision.

Admissions Policy Consultation - 2027/2028

We are currently consulting on a proposal to decrease our PAN in September 2027. During this period, parents are invited to share their views and any concerns regarding the admission arrangements at Honley High School.

The consultation period runs from Wednesday 22 October to Tuesday 2 December 2025.

Please take a moment to read the Consultation Letter and Admissions Policy below.

In Year Transfer

If a place is available, it is sometimes possible to transfer to Honley High School from another secondary school during the school year, or beyond Year 7. This is know as an in-year admission.

There are two types of in-year admissions:

  1. Parents or carers who are moving/have moved house and wish to move to a school closer to their new home

  2. Parents or carers who are not moving house, or whose change of address is not a significant one (a significant house move is defined as over 3 miles for Key Stage 2 and above), but would like their child to change school

Further information about the process can be found on the Kirklees Council website where you can also apply via their Parent Portal.
