Supporting your child through Key Stage 4
Parental support is essential in determining a child’s academic success. Your support, encouragement and interest can make a spectacular difference to your child’s motivation and ability to cope with the academic and organisational demands of the exam period.
To help parents and carers support their children in preparation for their Year 11 GCSEs, we hold a GCSE Parent Workshop in Year 10 and Year 11. These workshops cover the following key topics which can be accessed via the PowerPoints below.

Student Wellbeing – tests and exams can be a challenging part of school life for both students and their families. This session explores ways to manage stress effectively

Digital Revision Tips – with so many digital platforms available, it’s important to know which ones are most effective. This session highlights the digital platforms we recommend and how to get the most from them

Year 10 Non-Examined Assessments
For many subjects, Non-Examined Assessments (NEAs) form a crucial part of a student’s GCSE course and can contribute significantly to the final grade in one or more subjects.
At the start of Year 10, we hold an Information Evening to provide parents with the opportunity to attend subject workshops and find out in more detail about the different components and the deadlines for their child’s coursework. This information is also shared in school with students. The NEA Booklet, Key Dates and PowerPoint from the evening are also available to download below.

Welcome to the NEA Handbook for Parents and Students
This guide is designed to support both students and parents through the Non-Examined Assessment (NEA) process in Year 10.
The NEA is a crucial part of students’ academic progress, as it contributes significantly to their final grade in 1 or more of their chosen subjects.
NEA assessments allow students to demonstrate their understanding and skills through practical, in-depth coursework rather than traditional exams.
In this handbook, for each subject with an NEA, we have included:
NEA Submission Deadline: All work must be completed and submitted by this date. Late submissions may not be accepted and could result in a new submission in Year 11
NEA contribution to the final grade: for example (30%)
Overview of the work required: Students will have been given more in-depth information from their teacher
What parents and carers can do to support their child: In addition to creating the right environment for study, we have included extra ways you can help your child for each subject
We have also included an overall table of subjects, exam boards and NEA contributions.
For some subjects, NEAs continue into Year 11. We will be in touch towards the end of Year 10 with further details.
If your child’s subjects are not in this booklet, it is because they don’t have an NEA.

A good revision guide can be an invaluable resource; therefore, we have purchased the appropriate GCSE Revision Guides/ Workbooks at a reduced cost to support families and students.
