Supporting your child through Year 11 GCSEs

Parental support is essential in determining a child’s academic success. Your support, encouragement and interest can make a spectacular difference to your child’s motivation and ability to cope with the academic and organisational demands of the exam period.

To help parents and carers support their children in preparation for their Year 11 GCSEs, we held a GCSE Parent Workshop in Year 10 and Year 11. These workshops covered the following key topics which can be accessed via the PowerPoints below. Additional subjects were covered in Year 10:

  • Student Wellbeing – tests and exams can be a challenging part of school life for both students and their families. This session explored ways to manage stress effectively

  • Revision Techniques – there are many different revision methods to help students create a structured timetable and revise effectively

  • English Support – tips and techniques specific to English revision

  • Maths Support – tips and techniques specific to Maths revision, including Sparx Maths

  • Digital Revision Tips – with so many digital platforms available, it’s important to know which ones are most effective. This session highlighted the digital platforms we recommend and how to get the most from them

  • College Applications - guidance on completing college applications, including useful tips and advice

Revision Guides

A good revision guide can be an invaluable resource; therefore, we have purchased the appropriate GCSE Revision Guides/ Workbooks at a reduced cost to support families and students.

These are all available to buy on ParentPay. If you have difficulties accessing ParentPay, please contact Mrs Rolling, Finance Officer, by email at j.rolling@honley.tlt.school or by telephone at 01484 506484.
