Rotary International STEM Tournament

Our Year 9 and Year 10 students recently attended the STEM Technology Tournament at Greenhead Collage. 12 schools and colleges from the Kirklees area were represented by over 130 students, who took part in this year’s tournament.

Students took part in a team-based STEM challenge designed to develop their understanding of design analysis and development, application of ideas, communication and problem solving. All of these aspects will support students with STEM based subjects within school. This year’s challenge was to build a launcher, with only rudimentary resources of wood boards, batons, hooks, glue, screws, elastic bands, etc.

It was a fun, and rewarding day for the budding designers and engineers, who all worked in teams, to plan, co-ordinate and execute their finished launcher in the time scale.

This year’s awards were presented by the Mayor of Kirklees, councillor Cahal Burke. Congratulations to our students who won a Silver Foundation award and a Bronze Intermediate award.

Excellent work everyone!
